Hood Warfare Game Explained: Trapstar Games' Gang FPS Series

Hood Warfare is a two-game series of gang-themed multiplayer shooters from Trapstar Games, a studio that publishes both entries itself: a 2023 Early Access release set in Detroit, and Hood Warfare 2, launched on October 8, 2026 in Chicago. Both are Windows-only, with no console version. Every figure below is checked as of October 12, 2026 or carries the outlet that reported it.

What the Hood Warfare series actually is

Both games are round-based multiplayer shooters in which rival gangs fight over territory in an American city. You pick a side, build loadouts from perks and equipment, and play objective modes reviewers compare to Call of Duty. The sequel's store page puts it plainly: rival gangs fight for control of Chicago, and you pick a side.

Official source: Hood Warfare 2 on Steam lists Trapstar Games as both developer and publisher, October 8, 2026 as the release date, and Windows as the only platform.

The two titles are separate products on the same store:

First game Hood Warfare January 26, 2023 Detroit

The 2023 original: Hood Warfare in Detroit

The first Hood Warfare game is a $4.99 Early Access release from January 26, 2023 that pits Bloods, Crips and Vatos against each other in Detroit.

Platforms Windows only; partial controller support

All-time peak concurrent players 68 (May 15, 2023, as recorded by SteamDB)

That 68-player peak explains why the series stayed under the radar. Players in the Steam community hub now assume the first game may never leave Early Access — a community reading, not an official statement. The listing itself is Hood Warfare on Steam.

Hood Warfare 2: Chicago, October 8, 2026

The sequel arrived almost four years after the first game. Trapstar announced it on October 4 as dropping "this Thursday 10/8", then posted HOOD WARFARE 2 OUT NOW ON STEAM at 19:45 UTC on October 8, 2026, signed "-Trap$tar" and opening with "After nearly 4 years since Hood Warfare". The note promised updates — "Stay tuned for updates as many will be comin soon" — and the first one, patch 1.0.10, landed on October 12 with anti-cheat, voice chat and spawn adjustments.

Both are launch-window snapshots, not a settled trend — the running total lives on our Steam charts page.

Who is Trapstar Games?

Trapstar Games is a micro-indie studio that made and published both Hood Warfare games itself. It works in English only and has no console announcement to its name: the Trapstar Games YouTube channel carries three videos (the Hood Warfare 2 trailer and two for the first game), and every release notice has come through the game's Steam news feed — three posts as of October 12, 2026: the October 4 announcement, the October 8 launch note and patch 1.0.10, published at 16:35 UTC that day.

No console or crossplay announcement exists

As of October 12, 2026, Trapstar Games has published no PS5, Xbox or crossplay statement of any kind. Press coverage reaches the same conclusion: GameRant wrote that there are "currently no indications that Hood Warfare 2 will ever make its way to consoles". Details are on the PS5 status page and the Xbox page.

"Hood warefare" and "hoodwarfare" are the same game

Both spellings are misspellings of the same title and point at this series: Hood Warefare drops a letter, hoodwarfare runs the words together. There is no separate "hood warefare" game to find.

One trap to avoid

Hood: Outlaws & Legends, a 2021 game from Sumo Digital, is a completely unrelated product that turns up near these titles. It is not part of this series, and none of its details apply.

What you play in Hood Warfare 2

Six modes ship in the box. The right-hand column is Dexerto's media comparison, not an official label — Trapstar published only the descriptions on the left.

Mode Official description Compared by media to
Turf War Gangs fight over zones on the map, holding ground to score and pushing rivals off Domination
GangBang Two gangs in a straight team firefight, most kills wins Team Deathmatch
Chaos Every player for themselves, no gang loyalty, top kill count wins Free-for-all
Hit A Lick Steal the pack from enemy territory and defend your own Capture the Flag
Destroy The Block One side plants, the other defuses, one life per round Search & Destroy
Chain Snatch Kills start it — grab the chains enemies drop and recover your own Kill Confirmed

Details live on the dedicated pages: all six modes, plus the four maps — Downtown, Suburbs, Chicago Mall and The Trenches, which has no published details beyond its name.

Three systems run underneath the shooting:

  • Loadouts combine perks and equipment, with the attachment slots the store page names: sights, magazines, grips and suppressors. The weapon list is unpublished — the weapons page tracks what is confirmed.
  • Reputation levels come from playing matches and unlock weapons and equipment; weapon challenges unlock attachments; kills unlock skins. XP values are unpublished — the reputation page tracks them.
  • Bots fill out custom matches: pick the map, mode and settings, then add bots to both teams. Setup is on the bot mode page.

Platforms: what you can play today

Only one build exists: the Windows release on Steam. The table is the entire platform picture as of October 12, 2026:

Platform or feature Status Basis
Windows PC Released October 8, 2026 Store page lists Windows only
macOS and Linux Not released Both platform flags are off
PS5 Not announced No console wording in any official news post
Xbox Series X|S Not announced Same evidence; GameRant found no indications of a console version
Steam Deck Not verified No Verified label and no Linux build
Crossplay Not announced One platform exists, so there is nothing to cross to

The buying guide covers price and the launch discount, the player count page tracks who is online, and crossplay is worth reading before you promise this to console friends. The store lists full controller support on PC and English only.

Ignore 2027 console claims

Aggregator posts promising a PS5 and Xbox release in 2027 cite no official source. Trapstar Games has published nothing of the sort.
